OTish: Name that Tune
OTish: Name that Tune
Here is a snippet of a tune. I want to know if non-North Americans (neither born here, nor moved here) can recognize it. It isn't Irish, so don't try to fancy it up. Play it straight, at processional speed.
AFBF AFBc dcAF BAE2.....
The F's and C's are sharped...this is in key of D.

- Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.
Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps. - Location: Lefse country

I know that song, oh yes, indeed.
I'd know that song at any speed.
So how come no non-NAs have answered?

I wonder where my poll went! No, please wait...I really want to see if non-NA have any knowledge of this tune. Most of the world is still at night, let it go for a day or so please.emmline wrote:Ok...I played it, and my kid recognized it...you want us to say?

I've had two requests for the whole tune. This is what I can reproduce, but there may be a note wrong:
AFBF AFBc dcAF BAE2
AFBF AFBc dcde fed2
BGBd AFAD GEGC(nat) FDFB
EGFE D#FB A#BCF2 FG#A2
AFBF AFBc dcAF BAE2
AFBF AFBc dcde fed2
(*my '2's mean hold the note twice as long....there is some rhythmical difference in the second line of the second part, but if you know the tune at all you'll manage to fix my simplification. All F's and C's are sharped unless noted otherwise...and'm not at all sure of the last set of notes in the second section*)
I haven't gotten any nibbles in email or PM that a non-NA recognizes this tune, which delights me, as much as I adore this tune I'm happy that pop American culture only goes so far. I'll give it until this evening, then give the answer.
