They're IS a rule of Roll's:

Suppose that y = f(x) is continuous at every point of the closed interval[a,b] and differentiable at every point of its interior (a,b).If
f(a) = f(b).

then there is at least one number c between a and b at which
f'(c) = 0.

Very funny indeed. Nice application of Roll's theorem.

Actually though, isn't

f'(c)(b-a) = f(b)-f(a)

more linear?

Actually, that's Rolle's Theorem. I'm not being picky; I'm just trying to make it to my 1000th post. I should make it in about . . . . . . 60 years. :)

Rolls. Gotta love 'em. Had a bunch with Thanksgiving dinner.

Yum!

And some rolls really take a lot of precision...

Hey Peter, I like your interpretation of the half moon marking (also turn, and mordent in some recent music books). Particularly that it means an ornament, not necessarily a ROLL.

Hey Angelo, I just noticed that you live in Pleasanton. Sorry you missed the gathering in San Pablo. There's another one planned in June.....

I'm not sure about your spelling.

But after daring and posting this:

Hey Bloom, you were right. I noticed yesterday that on the Sessioneer site's tutorial it is mentioned that there are different ways to play rolls. Of course, that's the first time I'd ever read that section of the site so you're really only half right so far: I've yet to read the 'rolls' sections of my pennywhistle tutorial books, but I pretty much expect to see it mentioned there too, so go ahead and take in the glory now.... :D

I couldn't make that one. I do try to go to the slow session on the fourth Saturday of the month at Jaya and Sharan's http://www.elbowmagic.com/session.html

I understand that there is a session at the Main Street Brewery in Pleasanton on the third Thursday of the month, but I haven't made it there yet.

Thanks for the link! I didn't know there were sessions around here. I start Christmas break today (I tutor English at San Jose State U.), and hope to make it to a session while I'm off......
