Once in a very great while you can indeed get a free lunch...

Today is my birthday, and to celebrate that occasion and my many blessings, I am giving away an essentially new High-D Telescoping Laughing Whistle, post-paid. I am serious...

To participate in this event, choose a number between 0001 and 2002, and send this number in an e-mail to whitener@hiwaay.net with the words 'free whistle' along with your entry number and your forum username in the subject line. I intend to set up a filter on the words 'free whistle', so in you don't include these words in the subject line, your entry may get overlooked. For example, use a subject something along the line of 'Free Whistle - 0000 - CDon'. Please *do not* post your entry to the forum... It will not be considered an entry!

The winning number will be the one closest to a number that I have already chosen.

All entries must be received prior to midnight CST, 18 Jan 2002, that is, within one week. In the event of a tie, I will choose a winner on the basis of a random draw out of a Clemson University baseball cap, with the assistance of my wife. Please, only one entry per forum member.

The winner will be announced on the forum, but the winning number will remain confidential.

What a dumb idea, but it will be my pleasure...

(Grammatical editing added for clarity)

Happy Birthday!

This is a twist, the birthday person giving a gift!
Since I only have one whistle, and absolutely positively would love another I couldn't help but send my number choice.

Yes, (belated) Happy Birthday indeed. How Hobbit-like to celebrate by giving a gift to someone else.

Nothing has to match...

"The winning number will be the one closest to a number that I have already chosen."

"In the event of a tie, I will choose a winner on the basis of a random draw out of a Clemson University baseball cap, with the assistance of my wife."

If a tie occurs, she will draw a name from among the tied participants from the cap.
