On topic: I strongly recommend this online recorded concert

Post by Jerry Freeman »

Go to
http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/ ... esults.cfm

Search for "Wrigley"

You'll get some concerts featuring The Wrigley Sisters. One of the concert links seems not to be working, but the May 12, 2002 concert is just delightful. It's one hour and will play over your computer. Beautiful playing of Scottish traditional and other music along with some of the most entertaining banter I've heard.

Best wishes,
Jerry

This same place also has an incredible concert by Lunasa, really better than any of their albums, in 2001. There's also a 2003 concert, but i haven't listened to it yet.

Jerry, thanks so much for pointing us to this wonderful concert-- I'm thoroughly enjoying it. :) Makes my yearning to learn to play the fiddle that much stronger. These ladies are indeed charming... I could listen to their accents all day!

While you're at that site, check out Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem. Great band and good friends.

OMG! What an awesome voice the female vocalist has!

"she knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it..." Alright!! :)

Thanks for turning me on to Daisy Mayhem, Bloomy-Pie!

In addition to the above, here are a few more concerts of interest available in those archives (thanks for the link; just browsed, and am listening now to great pipes stuff):

Battlefield Band (July 5, 2003)

The Cottars (Aug. 5, 2003)

Conal O'Grada, Ronan Browne, Tommy Hayes, Kevin Glackin, Mary Green (May 18, 2000)

Rising U.S. Trad Stars (including Aran Olwell, etc.) (May 24, 2000)

Paddy Keenan/Sean Tyrell (May 26, 2003)

Karan Casey/Vallely Brothers (May 26, 2003)

Peter Browne - Uilleann Pipes (May 17, 2000)

Bonnie Rideout (May 5, 2001)

Kevin Burke, Fiddle (Sept. 19, 2002)

Gotta be more in there, too, if we dig around (I just did searches on things like "Irish", "Uilleann Pipes", "Flute", "Whistle", "Celtic". . .).

Thanks again for the link!

Lots of great stuff here.

Don't miss

Johnny and Phil Cunningham with Dougie MacLean

Flook, April 24, 2003

or Clandestine

Right now I'm listening to Conal O'Grada, Ronan Browne, et al. Conal's solo was quite the show-stopper.

Cheers,
Aaron
