James, please accept my condolences.
Your father went the best possible way.
Now, you get a hard part many of us seem to have been through.
In a similar occasion, I thought I was ok; in fact, I was shellshocked, flying on autopilot.
If, in a few weeks from now, you detect something similar, or just feeling a bit bizarre, do get help while you can.

Sincere condolences. No matter how it happens, it hits you in some way or another, but if it's unexpected it probably takes time for it to register.
By the time my Dad died, he had been in a long decline from emphysema and chronic (smoking-induced!) bronchitis. He was 73. My Mum was just two days short of her 90th birthday when she died, and she had also been in a long, slow decline from Parkinson's disease. So by the time of both of their deaths, we had already got used to the idea and the end came as a "happy release". It's much harder to cope with an untimely death, but at least your Dad had the good fortune that he didn't see himself grow infirm and helpless.

James - my sincere sympathies....your father must have a been a wonderful man.
Goin' home, goin' home, I'm a goin' home;
Quiet-like, some still day, I'm jes' goin' home.
It's not far, jes' close by,
Through an open door;
Work all done, care laid by,
Gwine to fear no more.
With sympathy,
Larry

I just wanted to say thank you so much, to all of you.
After a 10:00 service in Texarkana, my father will be buried this Saturday at noon at Antoine, Arkansas. Patrick McReynolds will be playing the pipes as my father is laid to his long rest.
At this time of grief and loss, for me and as well on the behalf on my family I thank you with all my heart.
This is a community of friends, and every one of you is my friend, and at this time, that friendship means more than I have words to tell you.

- Tell us something.: I became interested in the beauty and versatility of Irish whistles and music over 20 years ago when I first found the Chiff boards. Yes, I do have WHOA, and I love my whistles. :)
