Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

As the reigning champ of "Name That Whistle" (unless I've missed a round since winning the crown last year) I regret to say that I don't have access to a PC with audio at the moment, so I won't be able to participate - Geeze, I'll never match Lance now

A -- Susato

B -- Howard?

C -- Alba

D -- Overton

It's really tough to judge these by a recording played over computer speakers. I have trouble telling my own whistles apart with pretty good recording and playback equipment. Honestly no idea what B is.

Good test, Bloom -- when do you grade the papers?

Having no speakers at the moment and therefore no ability to join in the great fun, I shall use my highly advanced brain (HA!) instead of my ears to come to the neccessary conclusions...

#1. they are all whistles

#2. this is bloomfield

#3. there is an overton in the mix

Using only one fact (#2) I have used my highly advanced brain and came to the conclusion that since this test has been presented by bloom "overton lover" field, they must be all overtons!!! HA! beat that sherlock homes!!!

OK, round one of revelations. These are the four low Ds used: Overton (duh), Alba, Shaw, and Kerry. But not in that order. :) Anyone want a stab at it?

OK, at 8:45am, my guess is:

Aarhus: Kerry
Brisbane: Shaw
Calgary: Alba
Dubai: Overton

Probably change my mind at 8:46.... :boggle:

introduction and wild guess

Greetings all,
I' been learning the whistle for a couple of months now. (Meg D & Gen. Bb)
I thought about the whistles overnight.
(...too late to post then)
To my untrained ear it sounds like:

1. Shaw
2. Overton
3. Alba
4. Kerry

Happy Honking! :D

I think this exercise is a useful reminder of the fact that to a surprising extent you sound more like yourself than the particular instrument you are playing. A realization that could save people a lot of money.

Although LowD4.mp3 has to be the Shaw.

AAAHHHH another contest, I haven't a clue about how any of these low D's sound. I have a Dixon low D and that's the only one I have ever heard, but as a contest freek I will have a stab at it. :D

Aarhus - Overton
Brisbane - Kerry
Calgary - Shaw
Dubai - Alba

Hey, Ya gotta try or ya never win anything! Umm Bloomy, What does the winner receive? :P

Cheers,
Kathy :)

No idea which is which, honestly, as I have little experience with whistles other than my Clarke and Dixon, but I'm really excited to find out the answer :) I really loved the Aarhus and Dubai. The middle 2 were a bit chiffy and airy.

A - Overton
B - Shaw
C- Alba
D - Kerry

Just my guesses ;)

Hee Hee  Wouldn't it be extremely funny if I did win? Especially since I haven't a clue about these whistles. I did go to the trouble of googling these places to see if there are any whistle references to them or not. It must be a sickness or something!

By the way Bloomy. That's wonderful whistle playing you do there! I really enjoyed listening to each clip.

Oh yeah, does flattery get me anywhere? :P

Cheers,
Kathy :)
