Re: Signs of locked down life during the pandemic
This morning I found myself on Cappagh Pier near Kilrush, somewhere in between getting stuff at the supermarkets and a walk in the woods and garden of the old Vandeleur estate (it was a lovely morning, time to be out).
On the pier was another cache of the, for want of a better name, lockdown stones. Perhaps more the effort of local children. Here are a few snaps. One of the stones in the last pic has a depiction of Scattery island that lays nearby, out on the Shannon.

"Lockdown stones" is an ideal name. And if those were the work of local children, a couple of them seem to have artistic chops. Thanks again for sharing!Mr.Gumby wrote: On the pier was another cache of the, for want of a better name, lockdown stones. Perhaps more the effort of local children.

Apropos of nothing: I'm not a violent sort, but even though Dolores Umbridge is already in a hell of her own making, she still makes me want to use her as a piñata.Katharine wrote:I do, too, but at least you have the context now.Nanohedron wrote: Aha. Re: Signs of locked down life during the pandemic
I found another cache this morning that had a different angle, and a different name:"Lockdown stones" is an ideal name.
After waking up in a headspace that required some lifeaffirming watching big waves roll in while standing on a high cliff with a breeze blowing the cobwebs away, I found myself in Kilkee at noon. At the start of the cliffwalk there was another batch of stones, aiming for the inspirational rather than the artistic.
Between showers it was a lovely clear morning, there was hardly anyone about (saw less than ten people during the hour or so I spent walking) and the mood lifted.
With a nod to the earlier Harry Potter theme, the statue of Richard Harris, who had a house in Kilkee where he spent a lot of time in pre-Dumbledore days, had been given proper attire (much like statues the world over).
The whole country went under 'level three' restrictions yesterday, with a full lockdown looming once again.
On the way home we passed a golfcourse, looking windswept and empty. The owner caught the virus.

I can't do anything of that sort without taking a road trip. Standing the shores of Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, or the Detroit River is about as close as I'll get.Mr.Gumby wrote:Watching big waves roll in while standing on a high cliff...
"Positivity Rocks," replete with a double meaning, is also a very fitting name. Thanks again for sharing them.

Coastline is one thing we have handy and some of it of it steep and high enough. I can see the ocean from my kitchen, well just about. This is all more or less within spitting distance :I can't do anything of that sort without taking a road trip.
Good spots to clear the mind.

Thank, you, Peter. The coastline is much like the Oregon Coast. Love the ´Sea Stacks´.

I have precious little of that within a comfortable driving distance. You are most fortunate!Mr.Gumby wrote:Good spots to clear the mind.

Re: Signs of locked down life during the pandemic
I am not sure this is still entertaining for anyone but myself but I'll add a few more batches of images.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has strongly uirged the government to raise the whole country to level 5 restrictions for six weeks, effectively asking for a second lockdown. That may or may not happen in the next few days. Not a great outlook but something needs to be done. Anyhow, rather than doing a run for the shops (although in fairness I had a load of firewood delivered this morning, just in case) it was time to go out for a whileand clear the head before this kicks off.
I retraced my steps to the location of the original posts of this thread and found loads of new additions to what is now a community 'art wall'. I add a few here with some more to come:
Just up the road from the seawall the Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths had set up shop. They're an outfit travelling to different locations around the coast, offering (obviously) seaweed baths. Joined the cancellation list for tomorrow (they were booked out).
