It's The Queen of the Rushes.

I always get it jumbled up with Coppers and Brass - surely they're versions of the same tune?

cheers

Tell us something.: I'm here because I just wanted to change my location... but it turns out much more complicated than I thought. Do I already have the 100 required characters?

As Andy said, it's the G major version on "The Queen of the Rushes".
There is also a version in D mixolydian, as played by Liam O'Flynn on the Planxty album "Words and Music" - he couples it with "Paddy Fahy's Jig".

the humours of enistymon has a very similar first part to the queen of the rushes (except in g), a second part similar to the second part of coppers and brass, and a third party similar to the third part of the queen of the rushes (but again in g)

i love o'flynn's playing of the queen of the rushes - it's got just about everything you could want a piping tune to have

Am I the only one to think first of Tommy Reck for the D version and Maire ní Ghráda for the G one when it comes to this tune or is it a generational thing?

Noooo, definately not the only one, but it probably is a generation thing.

It maybe a generational thing, but any aspiring player of this music should be fully aware of what came before Riverdance. It isn't that hard to do in the "information age". Considering the cost of a set of pipes and the commitment involved in learning to play them, it makes one wonder why incipient pipers wouldn't be soaking it all up –– and not just pipes, but all of the music. On the other hand, there are certain amounts of pipering (and flute-playing and fiddling and low-whistling and box-playing) that I'm not much interested in. Maybe that's a generational thing!

:)

P.S. I prefer it in G. Sounds a bit plodding in D.

Ennis said he felt G was the 'home' key for the pipes. Not without reason.

Tommy played some fascinating variations for that tune, played B instead of Cnat in the 3rd part too. There just aren't idiosyncratic musicians like that any more.

I learned that tune from his LP too, well, cassette tape actually.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

That's just in D, not E minor. It goes into other things after it, and all sorts of bits and pieces of stuff, but the tune itself is played pretty straight in D at the start.

Hello Behall,
you're right, it begins in D, quote to the Planxty-Set. Then it modulates through baroque-Vivaldi-phrases. Please listen patiently until the end. After some changes it leads to e dorian mode, begins on b, only first two parts.
