Farewell to Milltown - which key?

Post by Mars »

Hello, fellow fluters!

Which key is 'Farewell to Milltown' reel (https://thesession.org/tunes/539) usually played in at sessions, Gdor or Ador? I'd like to learn the reel, but cannot decide on the key. Is it common to learn the tune in both keys for greater flexibility in such cases? There is no established ITM session in my area, hence the question.

Do fiddlers join in, if, say, some fluter starts in Ador a tune usually played in Gdor?

If you have a keyed flute than I would learn it in Gdor.
If not I would learn it in A dor but switch to a C whistle or
Flute to play along with others playing it in G dor with the fingering you already know.
Or a combination of all those approaches.

Thanks, Mr.Gumby and dunnp. At last I'll have a tune that needs some keys ;)
