chiffiest inexpensive whistle?

Post by Bartleby »

For those who need a little more chiff in their life (like me!) but don't have a lot of bread (also like me!).

I don't own Oak/Acorn or Clarke Original yet, but out of the others, I think my 2pc Clare has the most of what I call 'chiff'.

All my generations are more chiffy than any of my other inexpensive whistles.

I voted for the Clarke, but you left out the worst - and the winner in both categories - chiff AND cheap.

I give you -

Depends on your definition of chiff. I voted anyway, though.

I voted for Clarke Original, but individual whistles can vary.
Generations can be fairly chiffy.

I see somebody else voted Clare. I was afraid I'd be alone. :)

I expected the Generation to win hands down. I'm surprised to see the Clarke Original leading the poll. Although I've yet to play a Generation, I've played a few Clarke's and I don't consider them to be that chiffy.

Charles: I define chiff to be that reedy, slightly percussive sound that really distinguishes the sound of a whistle from a recorder or other similar instrument.

Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

I voted for the Oak based on the definition of Chiff that I like (the "ch' noise at the very beginning of a note when it sounds). -brett

I voted Clarke but I have a very Chiffy Cooperman that sounds nice if I can just forget about that block of wood sticking to my lower lip and tongue.

Cheers,
Kathy :)
