- Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

'Firefly' jig
I'm watching Firefly on Netflix and in episode 5 there is a little folk dance scene where they play a lovely jig. Does anyone know if that's a traditional jig and what its name is?

Re: 'Firefly' jig
Would it be this jig?
The name is too funny. Whedon, Whelan - who's gonna notice? Don't think it's traditional. But what do I know?

Old Neil Gow must be rolling in it.

I tore my quadriceps tendon in May and have been laid up since then, I still have weeks of recovery. anyway I've watched a TON of Netflix and it was inevitable that I get to Firefly. I'm liking it. I also am certain that I'm going to be bummed that there's no closure at the end.
Re: 'Firefly' jig
One night at the local session a few years ago I started playing this tune and immediately could pick out the hardcore Firefly fans in the audience as their heads perked up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover 3 Browncoats hiding in the crowd!

The movie "Serenity" provides SOME closure.

Okay just watched Serenity. Good way to end it I think.
Thanks everyone. Now I need to work on my half holing F so I can play The Sailors Wife.

Coincidentally, there was a long backgrounder piece yesterday on io9 about Firefly.

Re: 'Firefly' jig
I knew there was something special about Chiffers beyond just whistles and the music. Firefly is the shiniest TV series ever. Now I gotta go over to the Session and look up The Sailor's Wife. I wonder what the Firefly theme song would sound like on a low whistle?MTGuru wrote:That alone qualifies for a thumbs-up.FJohnSharp wrote:I'm watching Firefly
The Walrus
What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?
The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.
