Hammy on the tellie
Tg4's Ar fud na tíre just had a nice little item on Hammy Hamilton.
I assume it will be available on the TG4 player shortly.

- Tell us something.: Hi Nano. I was somewhat active on the Chiffboards maybe 5 or 6 years ago, participating in several whistle tours (Bracker, Hardy, Ellis). I took a break from the Chiffboards, and music mostly, for several years because I got a full-time job and had a baby. I'm easing back into the music, though (which is great, I missed it). It's good to be back!

Thanks Mr. Gumby!
The last thing he says is that he's interested in passing on his craft to the next generation. Does that mean he's taken on an apprentice?

- Tell us something.: in two words, Rudall & Rose. but since a minimum of 100 characters is required, I should list a number of makers I found extremely interesting… I don't even know how much are 100 characters...

Not as far as I know, still he is always ready to give the best advice, and his blog and his website (and his flute maintenance DVD) are a very good source of information! (Blog link http://hammy-flutemaker.blogspot.it/)Does that mean he's taken on an apprentice?

Re: Hammy on the tellie
That was great! In addition to hearing some nice flute playing, you get to see Hammy at work, see how his workshop is set up, and hear about his life. Its very well done. Thanks for posting the link!
By the way, for the navigationally challenged (like me!), the way to find this video is to follow this link:
http://www.tg4.ie/en/player/tg4-player.html
Then click on the "music" link. Then select the "Ar fud na tíre" program. Then fast forward to 9 minutes into the program.

Right! It is always informative to sneak a peek into a shop and see a flute maker at work.paddler wrote:In addition to hearing some nice flute playing, you get to see Hammy at work, see how his workshop is set up,
I wonder how long the blade on that spindle gouge was originally? That one's been sharpened quite a few times by the look of it.
Thanks for posting the link.

Re: Hammy on the tellie
Could someone identify the tune Mr. Hamilton is playing beginning at the 15:40 mark?
Thanks and best wishes.

Re: Hammy on the tellie
Nice to hear hammy play for the first time for me. My wifi is not man enough at this time of the day to watch the programme properly. I shall watch it early tomorrow before our American friends wake up. Thanks for the link to the programme. Jlpsix
