Pachelbel's Canon in D?

I love the Canon in D, and just realized that by playing down the scale from B, it actually works in a shoddy, impromptu sort of way. Yeah, I know, I'm kind of a dolt in terms of music theory. It's apparent to me now why it's called Canon in D.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody has online sheet music for it (must be public domain, no?) on tin whistle. Thanks.

It's on line somewhere as a Winamp file this page on the right hand side has it as a pop file and a jazz file. If you right click and save target it saves it as a winamp file. The midi bit when clicked on doesn't seem to play. http://jfaltot.com/midis2.htm

My aunt arranged a "medley" of sorts with O'Carolan's Concerto and Pachebel's Canon, for whistle, hammered dulcimer and guitar. It really is pretty, but unfortunately it seems she (on the HD), I (on the whistle) and my brother-in-law (on the guitar) can't seem to play it without one of us screwing it up. One of these days we'll get it right! Of course, since we only really get a chance to practice together about every 3-6 months or so (since we live far apart) it'll probably be a while!

'Can't resist!

As a classical musician, I've played this piece way too many times, especially at weddings. Working musicians often refer to it as the "Taco Bell Canon".

Ah yes, Pachelbel's Canon...

There's a fiddler in our session who plays this at "reel" speed. I'm sure that to a classical purist this must be akin to serving caviar on a Dorito.

Funny thing is, it works.

I'm glad to see that other's have a similar sense of humor. Our pipe band is pretty bad for "re-naming" tunes----

Lord Lovat's Lament becomes Lyle Lovett's Lament
My Dearest Dearie becomes Mommie Dearest
and so forth

It's gotten so bad that on occasion at a performance our piper who doubles as the spokesperson will forget the REAL name of the tune!

Pachelbel's Canon is one of my favorite, if not my favorite EVER classical piece. My first year at sleepaway camp my counselor played it every morning to wake us up.. I guess it's just hooked up with good memories in my head. Thanks for giving me the idear to play it on whistle!

I'll be playing the aforementioned Canon in just about three hours to bring in the bridal party at a wedding. Love it as a processional - it can go forever, regardless of how many people are coming in or how many detours the flower girl & ring bearer take on the way down.

Try this link, It is the search I did on Sibelius Music. They have quite a few versions some are free some are not. YOu willhave to download the scorch software but you can hear the music and print out the sheet music too. I have found alot of music on this site. Hope this helps. I use ABC2WIN to convert abc notation into standard music notation. It's shareware and probably the best 20 dollars I ever invested. The registration fee allows you to print out the music. If you're not interested in print functions you can still use it to display the music. Down load for free at http://abc2win.com/. There's lots of tools out there which will play these files as midi not to mention the thousands of tunes that are available on the net in this format. With a little practice one can sight read abc notation as easily as standard music notation. ABC notation is a great tool for sharing tunes over the internet and e-mail.

Ooops! Almost forgot: JC's tunefinder has a gif version of this tune in C.

Note that this is Pachelbel's Frolics, not Pachelbel's Canon. This is the reel version that msheldon refers to above. Eileen Ivers has a great version of it on one of her CDs (I forget which one at the moment). It's a heck of a fun tune, though!
