Has anyone having issues with Sam actually tried to send him a typed or hand written letter via snail mail? It may just be that he doesn't communicate well by any other method. There are a few of us craftspeople out there who haven't fully embraced the Digital Age.

So why indulge in them? Surely, if you're really committed to resolve the issue, the way to resolve this is a solicitor's letter delivered to the workshop, not a public display that will resolve nothing published on an internet forum ?
There is a balance between protecting individuals from public scrutiny and protecting the public from being harmed.

I've been on the side of protecting Sam for many years.

Worth a try. The phone isn't working anymore and email never did. Anyone have a current snail mail address?

Sincere question. Why is a flutemaker's snail mail address not publishable on the board?

Because in the absence of a published business address for Mr. Murray, the decision to share his personal information is his to make, not ours.

Makes sense. As the phone isn't working anymore and the flute makers list says he has no e mail, and his snail mail isn't public information (indeed, neither would the phone or e mail be), Mr. Murray would seem to be marginally in business, at best. Unless it's to the people who know how to reach him--those often being professionals, I'd wager. This seems to solve the problem for ordinary new customers, anyhow.

Jim, that is so glib. The man takes it upon himself to approach people to solicit business!

I might add, not having a publicly available address also makes it harder for process servers to find you.

If this thread is about 'protecting the public' why does it come under the guise of looking for contact information to sort out a business dispute? Be clear about what your intentions are. It will add credibility to your point.

Take two: Sam Murrey's business address is publically available - here for example http://www.firescribble.net/flute/makers.html

Although I doubt it will help anyone. I tried snail mail, e-mail, mobile-phone and someone even went to the workshop to speak with Murray about my flute and his own flute to no avail. Murray is understandably not eager to communicate with those of us he has duped. I've filed a case at the Galway Court

At this point, how anybody could defend Sam Murray is hard to believe. I am sure that Sam knows what's been posted here. He could respond, or have somebody respond for him. Casey can't possibly believe in the slightest that the super-hero we know as the mild-mannered Doc Jones would pester anybody. For Casey to imply that Doc Jones, Steampacket, Jessie K., C Quick, Tonehole, Libraryman, et. al., might be problem clients -- by him alluding to his own "problem clients" -- is offensive.

How can Gumby post such an inconsequential bloated quibble, and think it good advice? Doc Jones wants Sam's address so he can contact him about feeling cheated. By posting here he cautions other people from making the same mistake he did. His own interest in contacting Sam coincides perfectly with a public alert. Patrick was quite clear about his intentions. Where's the problem? To trivialize it by calling it "a business dispute" is unfair to everybody who has been screwed by Sam.
