Olwell blackwood keyless D on E-bay

Post by Steampacket »

There's an Olwell blackwood keyless D flute on E-bay just now. 11-12 years old maybe?

I guess one has to think about what going five years without an Olwell is worth to them.

Tulpenmanie, if you ask me. Nice, though.

:) Ah, but tulips were a readily available commodity. Aren't quite as many Olwells out there. There's a bit of speculation going on around Copeland whistles too. I guess the economy is turning around...and around.

"No condition issues" ... with 11-12 years of no playing.

Why wait 5 years with a one year waiting time for a keyless, at i'd guess half the price?

In 2008 a rosewood keyless Olwell was listed at $850 with a 1 year wait. Prices may have gone up, but $2900? Really?

The only question now is who will ride on Flora's Wagon of Fools?

Roughly ten years ago an Olwell Pratten in blackwood sold for 2725 on ebay. That was ten years ago when there wasn't the used market there is today.
Just read old posts on chiff to see what the market was like.

Maybe the seller should just call it a magic Olwell?

The seller is not a flute player, or knowledgeable about flutes by her own admission, she has set a much too high starting bid and is just hoping to get as much as possible. I doubt anyone will bid this time around, and she'll probably have to enter the flute with a much lower starting bid before anyone makes an offer.

Looks like the seller figured it out.

Or maybe not?

'I am almost at a loss for words because I have to report that the condition of this beautiful flute has been affected. My dog jumped up and got a hold of the longest segment and chewed at the cork. See new photos. The wood was not impacted. The cork on that segment will need repair now. I have lowered the price accordingly.'
