Maybe she's seasick.
oh my
that poor thing cant go onto boats anymore and has to hear the "celine dioin song" all the times ....
i am sure she has less problems with the money she got for her work than with what comes with the fame she got bec ause of it, specialy the fame of others (like that singer) ;-)

think i do start to dislike kate winslet now after i saw the first half of the video here
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/168208 ... song.jhtml

anyway, i do like the Titanic Movie Theme Song and i do like the whistle part, still cant play it but will learn it ;-)

but i wonder
can it be that many "serious" whistlers who "seriously" are into TRAD and nothing bit TRAD cant stand that so many people became interested into whistles by that moovie themes (Titanic, Lord of the Rings, Braveheard,...) wich , of course, have noting to do with "serious traditional whistling" ?

or is it just not cool to like it?

just asking ;-)

I think the correct term for My Love Will go On is "The Love Theme from the movie Titanic" as opposed to the "hate theme" or "not so lovely theme".

I have no issues with Celine Dion. She has a terrific instrument. I was blown away the first time I heard her in Montreal as a teen - long before the fame and fortune. And the love theme from the movie - just got overplayed at the time, too much air time. If it brings more people to realizing what a whistle is and how nice they sound, great.

oh it does
at least here in Germany
when i tell people that i play whistles, tin whistles or penny whistles, ... i look into asking faces
when i say, "that flute from the titanic moovie", than i see understanding, happyliy surprised and even admiering faces
for the people not understanding "titanic", mentioning "Lord of the rings" or "Braveheard" works ;-)

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

I suppose there may be. But that's a recorder (Blockflöte).

I guess it's being nitpicky, but My Heart Will Go On isn't "the Titanic theme" nor is it a part of the movie's score (background music) which was composed by James Horner.

Here it is... no song

http://soundtrackgeek.com/reviews/titan ... review.php

Rather My Heart Will Go On is a pop song which plays during the credits after the movie. There was controversy whether or not to include it at all- some were opposed.

The "Titanic theme" is a different piece altogether, which I have sheet music for and which I've had to play at various gigs.

I don't know how to write "ABC notation" properly but here goes

Titanic Theme (Never An Absolution)

4/4 GA | B2 d2 CB AG | g2 f#e d2 CB | A2 e2 A2 GB | A2 GB A2 GA | etc

Then there's Hymn To The Sea which in the score is in 3/4 time but which in 4/4 time is used as an introduction to My Heart Will Go On.

I've played all of these pieces many times... not my cup of tea but I play what the client asks for.

Just to answer the original question, we hate the theme because it reminds us of that godawful movie.

Ain't that amazing! On many industry lists Titanic is the second highest grossing movie of all thim, the fourth highest when adjusted for inflation.

I guess all those people who flocked to see it in theaters and ran right out to buy the DVD when it was released were just plain gullable, wrong or stupid. Do I have that right?

And based on the weakness of his awful work Cameron's Avatar became the highest grossing film of all time. There's no accounting for taste.

To answer the OP's question, the tune has become commercially cheesy. Too many people think that is what Irish music is about. When you get too many requests to play it at a session, you will start to hate that tune. It's kind of like Danny Boy/Londonderry Air. It is a beautiful melody and song, but it gets overplayed.

Also, I thought the movie was complete garbage. The protagonist was shallow, and the only thing believable in it was that the boat actually sank.

You folks are all wrong. The REAL reason people do not like (hatin' is wrong!) the Titanic them is because "it's near, far, where ever you are."

You'll probably also want to see Matt Mulholland's version of Rebecca Black's "Friday":

Well, today *is* Friday, after all. Because yesterday was Thursday ..
Thanks for these!! That recorder "playing" gave me the best laughs I've had in a long time - brilliant!!
Also, the other one is neat because he can really sing but it's such a send-up of an incredibly stupid song...

Interesting to see that there are various Titanic themes. I had assumed the OP meant "My Heart Will Go On, which I can't stand.

Aw, c'mon Feadoggie. Yo, dog(gie), I'm calling you out on that. :-)

If you're going to equate commercial success with anything except commercial success, then none of us would be playing traditional music.

Me, I'm off to transcribe the greatest hits of Justin Timberlake to ABC, for upload to The Session. He's at the top of the Billboard charts this week, and selling lots of records and downloads. So it must be good stuff, and anyone who doesn't like it must be wrong or stupid. Do I have that right?
