I'm guessing TSam isn't a big Ulysses fan. Just have to read the book for a class, Sam?

I rather like Joyce. He *can* carry on, though. . .

Joyce happens to be one of my favorite authors, actually. I liked the half of Ulysses that I read (I got sucked into LotR before I finished it). A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is my favorite non-fantasy book...

Holy Sh'moley. I missed the Stephen Dedalus reference. Joyce is one of those authors I return to time and again ("Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" -one of my faves, too). I loved "Ulysses" once it hit me that it was formatted à la 'stream of consciousness'. Made it easier to follow -at times. I recently picked up "Finnegan's Wake" at a used bookstore, and the proprietor pityingly said "Good luck". Indeed. I've now put away the I Ching and instead randomly open the 'Wake' for all my divining needs. :D

Sincere thanks to you both for reminding me I'm still to read anything from Joyce afore I croak. I was nearly missing priorities :)

There's so much to read,

So little time is left.

Yeah, and the Crystal people were paid by Lyndon Johnson to assassinate JFK.

Ya gotta watch those conspiracy sites. Paranoid schizophrenia may be contageous.

Yes, the theory was put forth by a Frenchman.

[segue] Speaking of the French... [/segue]

Did you see this?

FRENCH ADVISORS TEACH SURRENDER TECHNIQUES TO IRAQIS.

The AP reported today that French Military Advisors have been flown in under UN cover to secret locations in Iraq for the specific purpose of teaching surrender techniques to the Iraqi Army. "You have to raise BOTH hands," one Advisor was quoted as saying. "It is also a good idea to soil yourself". Before being hurriedly escorted from the base, one newsman reported seeing "several hundred French and Iraqi soldiers soiling themselves while waving both hands in the air". - Reuters

How utterly spiritual!

Did you make it up yourself, or merely picked it from the Sunday paper, as usual?

paul re tubedude: dittos!

nanohedron: if you check the opinionjournal.com site there should be an article about the iraqi kurds and their dealings with minorities in their own region--yesterday or today. anyone who supports this war, as i do, still needs to be aware that the aftermath will not be utopia; to quote john cleese and apply it to war and its aftermath: "piece of cake, now for the hard part."

bloomie: i'm gonna take a pass on that catechism session--not really my gig. like you, i guess, i prefer original sources.

Much better, and thank you for inquiring. But I am still trying to find the discussion to which you refer. I have yet to find anything in any of these OT political threads except a lot of self-aggrandizing masturbation -- high-falutin', arcane and esoteric masturbation, to be sure, but masturbation nonetheless.

For all the effect we are having on either (a) the relentless tide of human events, or (b) one another's opinions, we might as well be discussing the filioque clause.

And now for the obligatory Latin reference --

Non amo te, Sabidi,
Nec possum dicere quare.
Hoc tantum possum dicere,
Non amo te.

Pax vobiscum, dudes.

Nihilistically yours,
gonzo
