Moments in Culturally Promotional Fashion
I just got a gift from a friend returning from Scotland. It's a beach towel:
The oxymoron of Scottish beach towels as a general concept aside, I don't go to the beach. Should I otherwise be caught dead in it?
(The admirable model is definitely not me, BTW, and mine is "Bannockburn Blue". The above is for illustrative purposes only so you get the general idea.)

I know.
I also got this:
It reads:
numpty
(num-p-tee) Dialect, chiefly Scot. ~ n. 1. a bumbling fool; One who is intellectually challenged ("no' the fu' shillin'"). 2. widely known in Scotland as an MSP (Member of Scottish Parliament) [as in "Thae numpties couldnae organise a piss up in a brewery."]
I was asked not to be offended. Seriously.

I would use the beach towel. I'm not flattered by unisex t-shirts, otherwise I would have no good argument against the inscription. I mean, I do bumble.

eh...the apostrophes make it legible. If that's numptish, so be it. I get tired of pretending I'm not, around here.Nanohedron wrote:So you understand some of my misgivings, then.Peter Duggan wrote:Clearly designed and marketed by numpties too!Nanohedron wrote:no' the fu' shillin'

That is way cool. It would have helped in the picture if there was a beach rather than a dessert.

This is a fair point. The target audience really isn't the native Scots, is it. It's not like they need to learn their own words and pronunciation and stuff.emmline wrote:eh...the apostrophes make it legible. If that's numptish, so be it.

I guess it's really directed at Scots who migrated to the four corners of the globe during the great Scottish Diasporran?Nanohedron wrote:This is a fair point.
