Most Annoying Questions?
As an ITM player, all of use (at least in America) are asked some of the most annoying questions such as "What's your favorite tune?" or "Can you play the Titanic?". So what is/are your top most annoying recurring questions?

Re: Most Annoying Questions?
"Why do all of those songs* sound the same?"
* in reference to tunes, of course... Possibly so irritating to me as I'm trying my hardest to make them sound different
"What was that one called?"
Only because I can barely remember the tune, much less the title
"Can I have a go on your flute?"

- Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

"Can any of you lot sing?"
"How long have you been playing?"
"What's that instrument called?" (pointing to my flute)
"What's the name of your band?" (when it's a session)
"Can I have a go?" (pointing at my fiddle. This one always, without fail, makes me put the fiddle away and leave. Forthwith. And I mean it.)

I'll tell you what bugs me: punters invariably fawning over the bodhrán like it's the best thing since sliced bread, ignoring all else. Where is the love?

Oh good. Something where we have it better than you guys. Nobody cares over here. And those who do typically don't like it.Nanohedron wrote:I'll tell you what bug me: punters invariably fawning over the bodhrán like it's the best thing since sliced bread, ignoring all else. Where is the love?

Send them to me, I usually get asked what kind of drum is it I am playing, or "is that a bodhran". (I have a custom built drum made by Rob Forkner).Nanohedron wrote:I'll tell you what bug me: punters invariably fawning over the bodhrán like it's the best thing since sliced bread, ignoring all else. David

Not to take anything away from you of course, Davy. I'm just jealous about the fan club. Sometimes I explain, "We play the dance music." They usually squint and go, "What?"Jäger wrote:"Can you guys play *insert arbitrary Flogging Molly- or Dropkick Murphy's song*? Pleaaaaaaase? Come on! Well if you can't do that, what kind of an 'irish band' are you supposed to be, huh?"

Re: Most Annoying Questions?
I like talking to and meeting new people, so I don't mind any of those sort of questions. So long as they don't ask them while I'm playing...

I wasn't asking the Annoying Question: "What's ITM?". I was giving an example.
Thanks for answering

"I brought my guitar/mandolin/bongos. Can I jam with you? I have a really good ear!"
I guess it's a bit like reacting to a good joke by declaring, "IMO, LOL!".
You actually never hear the term "ITM" in the wild, only as Internet-Speak. "Irish Trad", sure.MeMyselfandI wrote:ITM - Irish Tradition MusicTonehole wrote:"What's ITM?"
