Straw Poll on hirsuitity.

Post by Innocent Bystander »

Futility Closet wrote:An English statistician has recently been engaged in an original task, that of studying the influence of music on the hair. … While stringed instruments prevent and check the falling out of the hair, brass instruments have the most injurious effects upon it. The piano and the violin, especially the piano, have an undoubted preserving influence. The violoncello, the harp, and the double bass participate in the hair-preserving qualities of the piano. But the hautboy, the clarinet, and the Mute have only a very feeble effect. Their action is not more than a fiftieth part as strong. On the contrary, the brass instruments have results that are deplorable.

I'm going to assume that most of us girls would skew your findings. So I didn't vote.

I remember the article in the "Boston Medical and Surgical Journal" that same year mentioned the "hautboy, clarionette, and flute" as instruments that will not likely preserve hair. Who ya going to believe the "Boston Medical and Surgical Journal" or that popular "science" rag "Scientific American"?

I guess I'd better make sure I practice with my trombone and guitar roughly equally. Then the instrument effects can cancel each other out and genetics can take over again. :P

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Baldness, shmaldness. What about all that hair in my ears? I'll bet listening caused it. But which instrument(s)?

Ear hair is Nature's way of providing you the resources for a comb over.

Prediction Time. This Gillette Fusion ProGlide Styler Commerical is now playing on TV. I predict in 6 months or so, well as long as it takes 20 year old impressionable young men trying to be cool to grow a beard that there is going to be a sudden and noticeable increase in bizarre facial hair for men.
