Me to, but no offense, I'm going to hold out for an actual chick.I.D.10-t wrote:If I went out to learn one it would either be tango* to spend time with my wife or capoeira for the exercise.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Re: The Non-Poll Poll: Dancing
I went to the Eurobash last Saturday - that's all day dance & music workshops with top quality British folk musicians. The main attraction for me was the accordion workshop, but I thought I might as well do some dancing while I was there, and got to practise Swedish things like the Snurrevals and the Polska and something Backmes, all taught by the fab Ms Kerry Fletcher. In the evening, there was a ball with Jon Swayne & Becky Price playing, followed by Angles. The atmosphere in the room was just plain beautiful - folky dancing has got to be good for your soul!
Unfortunately, the only dance I'm good at is the bourree, but if I could find a class nearer by, my dance of choice would be the Schottische. My favourite dance to watch, however, is the tango, but I prefer playing it over dancing it.

Re: The Non-Poll Poll: Dancing
Probably the "St. Bernard's Waltz". The "Grapevine Twist" is good, and I like "Wring Out the Dishrag".
And since Anyanka prompts the memory, the "Swedish Country Dance".
I used to like "Strip the Willow" and "Drops of Brandy" but my knees aren't good enough for them now. Hugh Rippon has evolved a version of "Strip the Willow" called "The Willow Tree", which is pretty good, but needs a set of eight couples.
What's the point of dancing if you don't get to hang onto a member of the opposite sex? (Or the same sex, if that's your choice.)
I am past Dad-dancing now, and am into Grandad-dancing. The observers are beyond embarrassment and can only marvel.
"Kick out the jams!" (I always thought that was a dangerous thing to do. What if one of the jampots broke?)

The Viennese Waltz is my personal favorite, although I absolutely love Swing as well. It's been too long since I've done either.

Hokey pokey is of course the ultimate dance.

- Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

I've been curious for a while as to why you guys call it Hokey Pokey, while we call it Hokey Cokey. Must look it up ...dwest wrote:Hokey pokey is of course the ultimate dance.

The important thing to remember is "we" use the correct name and you guys don't.benhall.1 wrote:I've been curious for a while as to why you guys call it Hokey Pokey, while we call it Hokey Cokey. Must look it up ...dwest wrote:Hokey pokey is of course the ultimate dance.
