i should note that this is a "new discovery" for the catalogue.
I had it's "kissing" sister registered, one serial number higher.
there are very few consecutively numbered rudalls catalogued and only one pair of consecutively numbered flutes are with the same owner. Interesting factoid.

Tell us something.: in two words, Rudall & Rose. but since a minimum of 100 characters is required, I should list a number of makers I found extremely interesting… I don't even know how much are 100 characters...

Yeah. A bit better than the last couple of eBay ones, but not by much! Looks like now's the best time in ages to buy original R&Rs - if you have the readies!

indeed
but a horrible time to sell the ones you have.

a classic push-me-pull-you scenario.

Tell us something.: Playing flute for about 20 years... however, recently, due to surgery on my right hand I find it difficult to cover the holes in a flute, so, apart from a Boehm instrument, I'm not playing.

I think this flutes in The Early Music Shop UK in their rare and antique instruments collection. No piccy, same description as the auction house and a price of £5,310.

they are distinctively different houses
Ah, well this one's at Bonham's then.

Besides the repaired cracks in the head and barrel, the foot joint blocks look funny, like they've been re-worked, too. Also, the wood looks kind of cruddy around both sides of the Eb block.

Note that the low C & C# keys are stuck in the closed position, when they should be open.

And It almost looks like the foot joint keys have been soldered where they pass through the blocks. Either that or there's tarnish right there on both of them.

It is very interesting to see the value that The Early Music Shop puts on their instruments. I know from first hand experience that their prices are based on doubling the original price (plus buyer's premium) that they pay when buying them at auction. Perhaps this is why they have not sold many yet !!!!!

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

Looks like tarnish to me...
