did any of you receive a "winning 1500 British pounds" spam?

Post by dspmusik »

i just got a classic spam email (which i rarely do, good spam filter) about winning 1,500 (or 15,000 who knows) British pounds. the only dealing i do with UK pounds is for buying whistles from across the pond (i'm in the US) and wanted to see if any of you got this as well?

Not me. Thank goodness, spammers always have a terrible sense of written English. We don't call them 'British Pounds' anyway.

Every so often I get an email telling me I've won the British National Lottery. That's good of them, since I never entered. Of course they want my name and address. Why? You've got my email address! You should know my name already! I am living in England at the moment, so it's almost nearly plausible.
The amount of money offered goes up and down. If I had more time on my hands I would monitor exactly how much they were offering. The latest one - allegedly from Burkina Faso - mentioned 19.3 trillion dollars. Pretty good, but we have had better offers. Anyway, if you don't know my name, don't go calling me "Dear Friend". And don't go assuming I share your religious beliefs.

1500 British pounds compares as nothing to my pleas for help from Nigerian royal relatives. Unfortuneately, I cannot achieve the necessary escrow funds to receive the millions in US dollars. However did peasants from Czechoslovakia trace their heritage to Nigeria, I do not know.

How much do you have to send for 1500 pounds? Are there still British pounds? I thought you guys went Euro.

We're still using pounds sterling. Thankfully we never entered the Eurozone or else we'd be in a far worse financial situation then we are, what with Greece looking like it's about to go t!ts-up and possibly taking Italy with it.

In other news, Greece has suspended production of all houmous and tzatziki. It looks like it's a double dip recession.

I thank you! I'm here all week.

mutepoint, dspmusic, brewerpaul: I have the one and only solid gold Copeland low D here. Who would like to start bidding?

One does not equal two. Not even for very large values of one.

It's Ireland that went Euro. There are still British Pounds, although I haven't seen one recently. I do dimly remember what they looked like. It's the shilling I miss, really. And the Thrupenny bit.

My royal relatives in Nigeria have assured me that they have sent you a money order. Proceed to send.

I play several flutes, many whistles, many guitars, bouzouki, banjo, and own way too many pedals.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Corny. But I won't beef about it.

Of course you don't. You speak the Queen's language, you call them Great British Stirling Silver Pounds.
