Oh, and I forgot...the whistle shop has "Slow Sessions" tunes that have both slow and fast recordings you can download. Go down to the bottom of the front page and look for "Slow Sessions".

Good luck to you!

Thanks for all the help Nancymae! I'll have to look into the Slow Sessions tunes some time in the near future. Right now the Bill Ochs book & CD is keeping me quite busy. Christmas tunes are good practice too, but even living rurally the neighbors can still hear me. Too much of Away in a Manger, etc. in August could get me run out of town.

Ha ha! Mr. Ed's Jig... I love it. I just played it and it's a nifty little jig which needs a half hole for G#-- a skill worth learning.
Is there a part B to the tune? I don't recall one.
Got wood?

aka 'The Toy Parade'? I just learned something there. Challenging tune, that --- harder than 'If I Only Had a Brain', but worth the effort.

Somewhat easier is 'Gone Fishin' ', (the 'Andy of Mayberry' theme).

Sorry to those who find fault with this. But TV has decimated our myriad of cultures in my lifetime. We can at least strike back in a few small ways.

Mmmm, beans ...

Yes, on the border of both trad and pop repertoire, TV and movie themes definitely have a life of their own.

They tend not to be very diatonic, so they don't fall very well on the whistle without gynmastics. But perhaps they're a good motivator. Don't be shy, embrace the half-hole and cross-fingering. :-)

Caution: You can cause whiplash in listeners necks by playing these songs.

I was a sheet music person my whole life and was pleasantly surprised that I could figure these songs out in my head on a wind instrument. In real life, "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" has at least 2 key changes but just ignore them.

Meet the Flintstones can be found at Wikifonia.org
here is that specific link
http://wikifonia.org/node/137
here is the link to the homepage

http://wikifonia.org
If you register, you can transpose, save, and print the sheet music. Maybe even hear it, I forget. I don't get any junk e mail from them.

They have all kinds of fun music of different genres on that site. Even Pink Floyd.

Very cool site Mutepointe! Thanks for posting it!

Sorry for hijacking your thread Mr. Ed. Bill Och's book is wonderful. You will be an ace player in no time. When you want to figure out what MT wrote, I'll send you the link to convert the ABC into dots. Another beautiful invention!

Also..it's never too early to play Xmas songs. I drove everyone nuts last year. But, I wanted to play certain songs by Xmas...will have to figure out a good mute this year. Don't want to drive anyone out of the house! Check out the mute thread...I haven't done it yet, but I plan to, soon!

No problem, my train of thought jumps the track often anyway. :D

Thanks, but that will be a while. Gotta learn to pace myself and not jump ahead of things.

I just use some electrical tape over the window, and that hasn't been often lately. The Waltons is at its best when played at full volume with no shyness or hesitation. Now if I could just get the ones I've made to sound nearly as good as that one with its nice chiff (chirp) and clear tone.
