ANNOUNCING (CP): The Freeman Bluebird (D and Eb) ...

Post by Jerry Freeman »

Quite unexpectedly, I have a new whistle to offer.

I was wondering what to do with the extra bluetop D/Eb Generation whistleheads I have left after using the tubes to make Eb Blackbirds, and I thought ...

"I wonder what would happen if I set one of these up the same way I do a Blackbird?"

The result is a really (I mean REALLY) great whistle. I'm very excited about this.

It is pure and birdlike, as I had expected, but a different whistle from a Blackbird. (For one thing, it's easier to play, and though it's voiced purer/sweeter than even a pre-1980's Generation, it still has some of the Generation character.)

As these get into the hands of board members, you can report your impressions. I think that's the best way for everyone to get a sense of what these are like. At least one board member already has one, so perhaps someone will post a review.

The price is $28.50 plus $5.55 postage anywhere in the world = $34.05 total for either key (same as my tweaked nickel D/Eb Generations). You can use http://www.paypal.com. For my PayPal ID/email address, use "jerry", then the symbol for "at" and then "tcenet" and then the symbol for "dot" and then the ending "net".

Please include a message reminding me what it's for.

If you want to pay by check, send me a PM and I'll reply with the mailing address.

I won't be putting these on eBay or selling them through retailers for awhile, so this is the only way to get them for now.

As with everything I do, 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Dammit Jerry.

Now I have to have one. If you think it's special, how can I resist? I will be sending payment this evening. Why do you torture us so? :D

Sound clip?

What are you using for the barrel?
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Until they're used up, the tubes will be the nickel D Feadog tubes left after I used the Feadog whistleheads to make Eb Blackbirds. After they're gone, I'll use nickel D Generation tubes.

Either way, the whistles will look exactly the same: blue whistlehead on a nickel tube with a Freeman Bluebird sticker.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Is the volume similar to that of the Blackbird?

I think it may be a little louder, but I haven't tried to compare them side by side. I'll do that as soon as I have one of each put together at the same time.

a quick tale about my Bluebird and the generosity of Jerry Freeman.

I ordered a Tweaked brass Gen from Jerry back in March and after some custom
issues :-? and a return trip to the US I finally got my Tweaked Gen earlier this month.
Now the great thing about all this is that not only did Jerry send me a really nice Gen
he included a Bluebird for free because of the problems we had and for my patience.

The Bluebird is a sweet pure sounding whistle and a real pleasure to play.
Thomaston asked about volume, I personally think it's a little quieter than my Blackbird
and more on the lines of my Sindt, in fact thinking about it, it's generally quite similar
to a Sindt but still having a bit of it's Generation character.

Having played it now for a couple of weeks it's probably my favourite plastic headed
whistle.

So a big thanks to Jerry for sending me the whistle and for producing yet another
great whistle.

If you like your whistles on the slightly purer side get one, you won't be disappointed
and at $34.05 you can't go wrong.
Happiness is taking things as they are.

Yes, Jerry not only repaired my prized Golden Tone C whistles, but also added the Bluebird in my surprise package, among other things. In a word WOW. Lovely tone, evenly balanced between octaves, moderate volume, and eminently forgiving so that IMO this is a whistle to fulfill the needs of all players from newbie to pro. And as far as the volume, you can wail away softly or lean in, just an accommodating whistle, without mere accommodation being its high point. Chanukah came early (or late) this year. Ok, it's a metal tube with a plastic head, but somehow I'm just really excited about this whistle.

Thank you Jerry.

In what way is the Bluebird different than a JF tweaked Generation D?

Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.

It's purer, brighter, more birdlike.

With another Franken-whistle in the lineup, I have to ask - Jerry, do you have a Jacob's ladder in your shop? Saving my pennies for a Bluebird.
The Walrus

What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?

The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.

It's less demanding in that regard than a Blackbird.
