Jammin w/ Willie

Post by lemccullough »

Got to jam with the magical Willie Nile last nite - wish I'd known him and his band when I was doing all that wildnkrazy IrishRockFusion stuff 30 yrs. ago - might have created a seriously altered Parallel Universe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjcl1mgR ... ideo_title

Willie says he's contemplating a heavily Irish-inflected album in the near future ... could happen!

Best,

Very nice. If it wasn't for the whistle it would not be the type of song that would hold my attention for very long, so it just goes to show the different feel that can be attained by just adding whistle.
Very nice playing, did you have a few run throughs, or did you play off the cuff?

< did you play off the cuff? >

Good point, Ceili Whistle Man!

I had the luxury of being asked to play a couple days before, so therefore memorized every note from Willie's recording and worked up several possible variations during the breaks. I like to be as prepared as possible, it's my nature.

Then, onstage, he changed the arrangement almost totally, so we flew without radar! Which is pretty fun, too. And at a couple points some inner sense of something just moved the fingers and I did some stuff I'd never thought of at all, and it sailed.

Best,
L.E.

Well you did at least have some familiarity with the melody line and you were able to tweak what you already had in mind (arrangement wise), and it worked to a tee. Well done.

(edited for 'melody' typo)

That was terrific Larry; even my wife came in to listen to that bit of Irish Rock whistle fusion. I loved the tune and it seemed written with whistle in mind the way it came off; nicely turned. Pogue Mahone/Cathal McConnell next!
