A glut of whistles!

Post by Anyanka »

This ties in nicely with the Seven Sins thread. Gluttony: can that concept be applied to whistle acquisition? I've been quite modest for a while (since spending a lot of money on my dream accordion), but have just managed to buy 5 whistles within two or three days...
One Syn high D from a lovely gentleman on this forum
One Shaw high D + one Shaw Eb, Ebay
One Alba alto G + one Alba alto A, also Ebay

I feel guilty. But it's Good Guilt...

When I saw your post I was hoping you were announcing that your personal whistlesmith was into production and you had some spares. I guess he's not keeping up.

Congrats on the new tooters.

Ebay has been moribund on the whistle front for months (especially the Low end I favour) but last couple of weeks we've been spoilt for choice, especially Shaws and Albas that you've gone for never seen so many!

A nice haul I hope you enjoy each and every one of them :)

Don't know if anyone has seen this gem, not my sort of thing but I'm told they are sought after:

Does somehow buying the whistles on Ebay relieve or exascerbate you of some of your illness? And what of this gentlemen? Perhaps he was the owner of "Needful Things"

No, he really isn't... I made the mistake of buying him a little old melodeon; now he's abandoned the workshop for the squeezebox. I'm sure he'll make some instruments one day - not just whistles, but eventually whole strange orchestras - but we work to a different time scale. When I want a whistle, I want it by Saturday. To which he says 'yes, of course' and makes me one, by Saturday. Probably a Saturday in 2017.

I'm with you. I'm quite embarrassed about my new found whistle addiction and acquisition :o But hey, all of them are cheaper than my clarinet :D
