The series aired several months ago. I didn't see it but I know several people took up something to make a bit of tellie, I know one went to Mary Bergin to learn the whistle but I forget what the others did or who they were.

Irish Times article about the whistle program.

I would have liked to see the end result, too. Did he ever play the piece he was working on?

Thanks for posting this - yes, it's wonderful! He was very brave to perform solo in public like that after a relatively short time. I hope he's still playing and enjoying it.

Brave?

That took balls.

Not bad for six months from scratch... just awful but not bad at all for picking up a very difficult instrument.

He didn't lack in mentors though.

Thanks for the clip. That is just plain encouraging! I'm 57 and started with this music 2 years ago, first on whistle and am working on flute now too. I've had great teachers and local musicians are amazing. Playing with them is like a constant dose of humble pie. But they're kind. All the practice/playing at home is worth it though because this music is infinitely giving. I wish I could "play well with others" but maybe in a year or two. If this is what you're drawn to I say just do it... at any age!
