Here are some detail pics of my small-holed, Rudall-embouchure Noy. It has a fire opal crown jewel and pounded gold-plated rings.

Not mine unfortunately, but here it is: an original boxwood and silver Böhm flute. So cool.

Very beautiful, Steffen. Is it warped or is that a lens fish-eye effect? I'd guess the risk of making a Bohm flute body in box would be it warping and jamming or at least seriously de-regulating the keywork. I wonder how it sounds?

When you write "original", do you mean it is actually made by Bohm himself/in his workshop?

I'm almost sure that it's warped. The flute is in the German Museum (Deutsches Museum) in Munich. By original I mean that it's an original Boehm/Mendler flute made in their shop in Munich.

Here is what the museum has to say about it...quite extensive information actually! I think I'll have to make contact with the museum, they have lots of nice flutes. Maybe they're willing to let me throw an eye on the collection...

Thanks for the link, Steffen - yep, it's a seriously classic box banana - almost certainly unplayable! Still beautiful, though.

My newly restored Huller and Meyer-made Lyon-Healy 13 key Flute: Headjoint is ebonite and tuning barrel is Cocus or Rosewood (I think Cocus) from a Huller, Body is ABW and from a Lyon-Healy flute that likely was made by Meyer since it has a LOT of Meyer keywork features. Ebonite, Cocus, Blackwood, Silver, and German Silver, all in one flute. I call it Frankenflute (which is fitting given it's German origin).

Thanks Jon C. for the excellent work!

Surprisingly well!

It isn't a very loud flute but it has a great tone, quick response, and is lovely to play. I only have two complaints:

1) key placements
Eb key is too far away (too close to the wrist) and the C/C# keys are too close to the R3 hole. Bb lever touch sometimes get hit by R1 accidentally because it is off the flute body so much.

2) Foot pads aren't sealing well so C and B don't speak. It isn't a problem, I can repad them without much trouble. The pads put on were very well done, but they simply aren't thick enough - the cup/touch are depressed all the way and there is still a leak even though the pads and holes are not deformed. It is because these are articulated keys and their cups sit so high off the body when resting.

I can't get B to speak well even when plugged, but I tested and there are no other leaks, I suspect it is because the HJ isn't original and wasn't from a B footed flute. I hardly ever use the low B on my Böhm (and that's my main flute) so it really won't be missed. I'm even tempted to remove the B mechanism to reduce the weight. This flute weighs a LOT.

That Wilkes is a beauty. :D

PS: Kevin, I see you're a wind power engineer. Does that help with flute playing since that's also a wind-powered instrument?

Haha maybe... though at work I try to minimize the audible impact instead of maximize it! :)
