I wonder if they will ever be able to use the light reflection/absorption to tell what the atmosphere is like on those planets.

Apparently they already can, though it only works well with hot jupiters so far.

Seeing as an omelet involves destroying the yolk making sunny side up an impossibility, I would say it is because of deep hidden desires to control the universe with a star destroying device.
