Dear all,

The Online Academy of Irish Music has just revamped the 'Expert Whistle Skills' course. To view OAIM's new and improved lesson templates log in to www.oaim.ie and click on the free sample lesson 'The Baltimore Salute'. Many more exciting changes are planned for 2011!

Warm wishes,

Tell us something.: I'm just trying to update my profile. I need to change my location since I no longer is living in Sweden. I'm still playing the whistle though for the most time I'm just a lurker on the Chiff and Fipple board.

Excellent, now I can both see and hear what's going on because unfortunately the videos on the OAIM website
doesn't work well on my Mac. Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Anders

Hey Anders,

I'm glad you like the website - that's strange though... I've a Mac also and don't seem to have any problem opening up and playing the videos... is it all the videos or just some that you're having trouble with? Are you giving enough time for the videos to buffer and all that sort of stuff? Hope you get it sorted out anyway... let me know :)

All the best,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The problem seems to be pretty consistent and is most likely caused by the way the audio/video is encoded.
I get the video but no sound at all so I am also pretty sure it isn't caused by not giving the computer enough
time to buffer the video.

Cheers,
Anders

I would think it's a bit premature to go so far as to say that, if no one else is having trouble.

Agreed. Youtube reencodes everything, so I would think
you would have the same problem with other youtube vids.

Have you updated your Flash plugin lately, Anders? Adobe
has pushed several updates in the last week or so.

I have the same problem with missing audio on my Mac. The sound is usually there for the first time I play one of the lesson parts, but disappears if I try to repeat or go on to another part of the lesson. No amount of reloading or rebooting seems to help. The audio comes back when it wants to, no sooner. Just for the heck of it I tried watching the lessons on Safari, rather than Firefox, my usual browser. Safari plays all the lessons with no problems at all, so it appears that this problem is related to Firefox somehow.

I can watch and listen to the copy on Youtube so as long as the clip is available there at least there is a workaround.

BTW, does anyone know what tune is played in the intro to the Whistle Sample lesson?

Cheers,
Anders

Hi,
Thanks for bringing this problem to our attention, we are just trying to fix it. In the meantime, why not try using a different browser, the lesson works on all of the popular ones.

Apologies for the previous incorrect post.

Kind regards,

Mathew

Hi again everyone,

Just a brief note here in case anyone is interested - OAIM is running a competition for 1 month access to OAIM's full online library of over 125 Irish Traditional Music Lessons.

To enter, you have to first create a free account at www.oaim.ie. Secondly, 'Like' The Online Academy of Irish Music's Facebook page (if you're on facebook that is). And thirdly, post your OAIM username and favorite tune in the competition comment box that you'll find there.

The winner will be announced on April 8th so just a couple of days to go.

That's enough plugging from me for now :poke: :)

Hi Thomas,

Did you add the button to 'like' the OAIM pge on Facebook? I can add you as a friend, but I can't see the option to 'like' the page.

Hey there Folkert,

If you type in The Online Academy of Irish Music into facebook search box page should come up.. and then when you join you'll see the list of where people are adding their favourite tunes and OAIM usernames. Is this what you mean? Or am I confusing the situation? :-? :)
