High Pitch + Ceramic = ???

Post by Jack Bradshaw »

Picked up a conical ceramic flute on EBay the other day......finaly put it on the tuner tonight......A = 452, high pitch !

Nicely in tune with itself so it's not a mistake........seller has no idea of its origins......the cardboard tube doesn't look that old (but might not be original).....and of course, the flute might be relatively new and made from an old mold ???

Oh yes, the embouchure edge wall is the only place that seems to have been finish ground, not much.....

Anyone have any ideas ??

Hey Jack,

I've got your flutes little brother!

Just recieved it last week, also from Ebay. Original owner has had it "quite some time" didn't remember where he obtained it.

But, this one is in the Key of F and appears to be an inch shorter than yours.

I play flat and I'm able to play it reasonably in tune. The tone is a bit bright to my ear, but it is a pleasant flute to play.

When I recieved the flute I simply scrubbed the flute with dish detergent and hot water. I will say it is rather pleasant to play a warm flute on a cold winters day! :)

All the Best!

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Looks like you'll need to do some Delft fingerwork with those. :D

AWWWWRIGHT !

So we know there were at least two of them.....the cork is junk....I found a synthetic wine cork worked the best as the bore isn't quite round. That got it down to ~ 7 cents sharp....much better !

Still no idea who made them though...... :-?

I thought to include in my initial post:
I suspect the flutes heralded from the late 70's and early 80's. Do to that period being the Golden Age of Soap on a Rope.
But that would be just silly! :D
