Tell us something.: I have played the whistle for a few years now. Love the discussions that happen in this group and the sale of used instruments.

Conal Ó Gráda, renowned for his powerful and highly-energized Irish flute sound, has chosen a set of jigs and during the workshop he'll guide us in exploring articulation (breath & finger-based), flute tone and embouchure, rhythm, breathing and phrasing in it. Conal will supply workshop registrants simple solo recordings to listen to help get the basic tune learning process done before the workshop.
The Art of Irish Music: Playing The Music of Sliabh Luachra with Conal Ó Gráda

ALL MELODIC INSTRUMENT PLAYERS INTERMEDIATE LEVEL+ OF ALL AGES
(BEGINNERS & LISTENERS WELCOME TOO!)
75 MINUTES • 11:30AM-12:45PM CDT

Superficially, Irish music is the playing of simple tunes in a particular, but simple way. Particular because Irish music has its boundaries - the defining characteristics that make it authentically Irish. In a sense the inside is bigger than the outside, because within the limits of the tradition there is infinite space for interpretation, experimentation, and innovation. Conal Ó Gráda takes up this space in surprising and beautiful ways.

Join Conal as he focuses on getting that unique rhythm and lift to play on polkas / slides in the Sliabh Luachra style. Conal will supply recorded polkas beforehand (different ones from the one used in the flute/whistle workshop) easily playable by all melody instruments (including whistles, keyless flutes and pipes) for everyone to be listening to and learning before the workshop.
