Help with tune

Post by khl »

I’m hoping someone can help me here. I’ve run across a different tune that the Hymn “Beautiful Savior” is set to (not the traditional Crusader’s Hymn). It’s listed as a traditional Irish tune, but without any specific tune named anywhere. I’m going to put a link and hope maybe someone can identify the tune.

Here is one link https://youtu.be/DKcXFvHH_j8

And another: https://youtu.be/M4Gwey9SaXE

Thanks, Kenny. That indeed sounds like the same tune.

You're welcome. Coincidentally, I've just been looking at a CD from the German Folk tours of the 1970s. The song was recorded by the Furey Brothers, complete with uilleann pipes. I'll post it on Youtube if you like.

It would be interesting to hear the YouTube post. Once I learned what the tune was, I found a bunch of recordings by many people. (The consensus seems to be that this is a Scottish tune, though some will says it’s Irish. That sort of thing happens now and then when it comes to folk music.)
