I've done a lot of hunting on the net for the song "the snows they melt the soonest." I can't seem to find tab for it. Such a pretty song. I'm in the process of learning DADGAD and want to try my hand at playing this song.
Does anyone have it, knows where on the net I could get it, or what collection/book it might be in?
Thanks!
I sing the birdie tune
It makes the birdies swoon
It sends them to the moon
Just like a big balloon

What an interesting song! Does anybody have the ABC for it?

I was suprised to see this tune mentioned. I'm no help re: the written music, but , I learned this tune by listening to Dick Gaughan's recording of it on his Handful of Earth CD. A GREAT CD.

It's in (I believe) the latest edition of Sing Out magazine. No tab, just standard notation.

The song is actually in:
Sing Out; Volume 45, #1, Spring 01; page 32/

I wish I had a scanner but alas I don't. I have copied it from microfilm, so if anybody wants a copy, email me off board and I will mail you a copy.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

Thanks Loren, one of the few databases I keep forgetting about. And my offer stills stands to mail it to anyone who wants it. Snail mail is a photocopy from Sing Out and includes the words and guitar tabs to the song.

A great CD indeed. And if you want Gaughan's comments on how he plays it go to

It doesn't matter what other version you might have, you NEED this one.
