And they just showed up again yesterday! I immediately reported them as usual.

I saw the B uilleann set and a silver & ivory Highland set, both the same scam.

Surely the bass reg could be set up right handed. It’s the mainstock and not the reg the would determine right/left.

The plate that connects to the mainstock is reversed, in comparison to one on a right-handed set. The seller's description says, "If you wish to use the full extension on a right handed set, you'll have to turn the stock bracket around & re-solder."

It doesn't seem like that would affect functionality, though. Just aesthetics?

With a straight bass reg, I always assumed that you could switch it left or right without having to make any changes to the reg other than twisting the wood section 180 degrees. Obviously the mainstock would have to be drilled and the bracket screwed on, but I didn’t think that the reg needed any adjustment.

At least with the sets I've had the metal tube was offset on the curved sheet metal bracket, so only a short bit was showing above and a rather larger bit showing below.

But as you say it seemed more of a visual thing than a functional thing. Would it matter if more of the bracket was on the top side of the mainstock?

My straight bass reg tubing section is not only offset on the curved sheet metal bracket as mentioned, but it is also mounted to the plate at a slight angle to line up the key height better with the tenor/bari keys downstream.

My set isn't Gallagher, and I can't tell if the same angling would be true of his work based on the one or two pictures. Just some cents for consideration.

I've dealt with the seller of the Gallagher bass reg (he sold me a chanter by a different maker). He is a knowledgeable piper from what I gather, so an interested potential buyer shouldn't be shy about asking him questions.

The bass regulator is no longer available.
I was a bit tempted, but my 3/4 set is a rosewood with different shaped reg keys, and I'm trying to avoid having too much of an obvious 'Franken-set' look.

I don't mind the Frankenpipes look.

When I started out playing (late 1970s) the albums had photos of the pipers playing mixed sets, so from the beginning that's how the pipes looked, for me.

Pin-mounted nickel-plated round-cup reg keys, block-mounted brass square chanter keys:
