Re: Ebay Items
Just saw these postings. It seems the eBay posting has been deleted, but from the description it seems clear that it is a scam re-posting of a set of pipes I sold on eBay about 3 years ago. Photos are on Pat D'Arcy's site, and whoever the scammer is seems to reuse the pics I took, which is a dead give away for a scam.
For the record, the pipes were sold to a buyer is Australia. So a sale of these pipes emanating from anywhere but that country is to be questioned.
Cheers
Rick

Re: Ebay Items
Scary stuff. Thank you for the update. They sure are lovely ... I admit, I got kind of wound up about them for a bit, there!
So do you imagine there's some kind of cottage industry where people just cache and then pore over old ebay listings and go "hmmm, probably about time to run that Crowley uilleann pipes listing up the flagpole again"?
That's just ... !!! How do people keep track of it all? Is it worth it? Makes me wonder how you're supposed to know anything on ebay is real anymore.
Anyway, thanks so much to you both for saving this prospective sucker. Once again, "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

Re: Ebay Items
Well...
I've just had a play around with Chris' 'C' shuttle set and after adjusting the drone reeds and layette tuning it now plays reliably in tune in D with one of Chris' chanters. Incredulity is expected, but I will try and record a couple of sound clips to prove it.
It begs the question though; if it will tune UP to D - a whole tone from C - would it tune down a mere half-tone to B???
More later.

Re: Ebay Items
Thanks, Davy! But actually, as much as I would like to get some nice C drones, I must stick to the task ... it's after some concert pitch regulator action I am, I am.
Plunging deeper into the abyss .... Thanks again !

Re: Ebay Items
3,500 Euros ... that's the highest asking price I've seen for a practice set.
If the set is 20 years old, the leather bag and bellows gusset might need to be checked. 20 years is a long time for leather to stay airtight (and glue to stay sticky).

Re: Ebay Items
Practice set in D - UK only.
The seller doesn't say what kind of chanter it is, but it looks like my Crossan chanter.

Looks like Uilleann Pipe Works of Boston. They made composite chanters.BigDavy wrote:Practice set in D - UK only.
