This is on tape only I think, and there is this lovely tune that he does on there...sort of a slow air kinda of tune...does anyone know the name of the tune by any chance...thanks..cheers.

Ashokan Farewell, written by Jay Ungar - a slow waltz - is this what you mean?

I bought that tape in Ireland years ago and listened to it the whole trip. I dont have it anymore but I remember Ashokan Farewell and a version of the Lonesome Jig that sounded like a march. I later found this march setting in a Scottish old tune book.

Holy smokes...you know what...I just youtube it...and thats the tune...I caught a fiddler playing it...so nice...a great wee tune, that is...thanks so much...does any one play this piece?

I haven't been to too many sessions...been hitting some in NYC, but not as many as I'd like...can't recall hearing out yet...would love to though...big fiddle tune?

Simply fold them up one octave. Sounds rather good and pipey.

Don't go by that main thesession transcription. It's bad. Take a look at ceolachan's setting in the comments instead.

Sadly, it has become the "Oh, Danny Boy" of fiddle tunes. This piece was repeatedly brought to the world's attention when Ken Burns used it as the theme for his The Civil War series. In honor of that show, when you read the musical notes, lock your eyes on the first bar and s-l-o-w-l-y pan your head to the right

I just play it in G. We don't have enough fiddle players around here so nobody complains.
