Ontario Pipers club anyone?
Hello Piperpeople,
I have just moved to Canada and think it would be a good idea to have a Pipers club in Ontario. Is there any interest out there? I know Joe Kennedy is up for it. I also know that here in Ontario there are mighty fine pipers such as Debbie Quigley who are a real asset to piping.
I have a venue in mind in Toronto.that I have access to as well where we could meet.
Anybody interested?

Re Ontario Pipers club anyone?
Love it ':D'
Us Uills have more sense . I am a proud member of the Quebec club
We could call it the Upper Canada pipers club ''
I think a Feb meeting is a great Idea. I was thinking of holding it at 401 Richmond at Richmond and Spadina Perhaps a Wed evening?
Views anyone

Ppers' Club
count me in as well - however as I am 4 hours away from the great TO (considered by some, mostly inhabitants, as the centre of the world), I doubt that I would make many meetings.

Thanks Chuck,
The club may come to you!
I hope that we will be able to operate as an Ontario club rather than a Toronto club. If you have to travel 4 hours to get to a meeting someone will put you up. Pipers are mostly friendly
I think it would be good to see where the centre of piping gravity is!
Tell your buddies!

In order to be able to attend, such meetings would, perforce, have to be on weekends, not weekdays. Its just too far to TO and back to do on a weekday evening for many of us.
Don't laugh about the "Upper Canada Uilleann Pipers' Association". That name was suggested several years ago by Bob Gardner. It was eschewed due to concerns for political correctness (never far from uilleann pipers' minds) and the potential emotional effects on our Québecois brethren.
But why start a new club in TO when there is already the Chris Langan branch of CCÉ? Do we really need another layer of bureaucracy? Wouldn't it make more sense to take advantage of the existing organization, and just add more piping-centric activities to that? Just a thought. Please discuss.

Thanks, but that photo was actually DJM's work!Fecking brilliant!
(That's his old Robbie Hughes D set...not sure who made the mixing bowl.)
Several of us used to get together some years back in the London Ontario area. Some quit. Some moved away...and there were less of us back then.
The Chris Langan weekend is brilliant but only gives us one event per year in this neck of the woods. Perhaps several smaller scale get togethers are indeed in order!

meetings
Hi Dave
You have great taste in pipemakers!
I take your point about weekends, why not?
All in favour say Aye.
I am very happy with what the CCE does here . . I want to support the great work it does here. Back in the U.K. I was Northamton branch President. I also ran CCE sessions and classes. I have done the Fleadhs and had the tunes.... However...........I was also involved in the London Pipers club as a student and teacher.
They are different animals. They do different things. Long may it continue.
I just want us all to meet up somewhere in Ontario, have a few tunes, learn stuff enjoy bthe craic and look forward to the next one.
Re Upper Canada It was a reference to the previous post , excuse the lame joke. I certainly do not wish to annoy anybody, remember I am new here.
Think of the benefits of 2 strong clubs, one in Quebec and one in Ontario serving pipers , bringing top players and teachers over.
Lets do this. Soup is up.

Actually, it was a Robbie Hughes set. Good guess, though.magroibin wrote:That's his old Robert's D set
Thx. A rare moment.JES wrote:Fecking Brilliant
Go for it, Steafan. Name a time and place. I could care less if it is done through CCÉ or a dedicated piping club or just a bunch of yahoos thrown into a pit somewhere.Steafan wrote:I just want us all to meet up somewhere in Ontario, have a few tunes, learn stuff enjoy bthe craic and look forward to the next one.
Another bit of Canadian culture you will need to learn is the term "two-four" and you're buying.
