Hey all,
I'm heading to NYC on 31st October to pick up my B Gallagher set, and hanging around for a few days.
Is there any sessions happenin in any pubs round Manahatan or anywhere that's not too far away? I'll probably bring my D chanter with me if there's a chance of a tune somewhere.
Hopefully I'll still be in one bit by then-running the Dublin marathon again on 30th October - mighty craic!!!!

You might check the C&F City Guide where such tidbits are posted.

FYI: Seth's place is nearly 2 hours from the city, but this web site offers a session for every night of the week. Call the pubs first to confirm though.

Yes, trains run hourly from Grand Central to Cold Spring. Look up the schedules here:
http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/ (Metro North).
I don't know exactly where Seth is, but he's got to be close to the station - Cold Spring is pretty small. And it's a really pretty town.
I hear people talking about Dempsey's pub on Tuesday nights at 8pm (
http://www.baggotinn.com/dempseys.html)and Blaggards Pub on 38th St just off 5th Ave on Sundays between 5 and 8 pm (
http://www.blaggards.net/Entertainment.htm). These are definitely ongoing sessions.

You can walk down through the town (Cold Spring) to the railroad. It is at the bottom of the hill.

Real nice live CD with lots of talented local players. Also, I have an aunt named Mona and she is from Cloone (Co. Lietrim) and the CD has the Cloone reel on it. Was such a coincidence for me that I had to have it!
