Pressure on the bag

Hello everyone!

I’m new to the Uilleann Pipes. I’ve been watching videos online trying to get a grasp of the bellows and the bag. It seems that after the right arm pumps, the left arm flaps out, but not everytime. I’m wondering if the left arm should be steady maintaining the pressure and not budge much. Wondering what the consensus is on this? I’m also open to any tricks/tips you’d recommend for someone new to piping that you wish you would have known as you were first starting.

Absolutely get a teacher to show you the basics ASAP.

The left arm should be steady pressure and a teacher will walk you through how to accomplish this. It's worth having one lesson right up front, even if you then take a few weeks to practice what you learned before the second lesson.
