Active Uilleann Pipe Makers

Post by Donegal Tom »

Hi folks,

I am playing a half set here, which can't be upgraded to a full set.
The plan is to change to another half set, which can be upgraded.

I have tried to locate active uilleann pipe makers but there is not much of a response.
I would prefer someone who is located in Ireland with the oportunity to visit
and have a go on a set that is already existing.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks a lot
Thomas

Are you looking exclusively at new sets, or would you consider a used set? There are a number of sets on uilleannobsession.com and on the FB Pipes for Sale page.

Its a shame Martin Preshaw is no longer a pipemaker , he was making some lovely sounding pipes.

I believe Martin McIntyre is based in Donegal. Seen a few pipers playing his sets recently; Robbie Hannan's C set, Paul Harrigan, Brian Stafford in the NPU 'piping from the parlour' video

I have drones in D made by Martin McIntyre.

Just an update after a week:

I have contacted all mentioned pipe makers and clubs.
No response so far.

Additionally i have contacted one dealer outside of Ireland who had one half set (made in Scotland),
which has already arrived here.
Another maker outside of Ireland has contacted me because of this post here, what i really appreciate.
