Clip-on Microphone for Regulators

Years ago Uillmann said that he had some success amplifying his regulators using an Audio Technica clip-on gooseneck microphone. I’m thinking of trying this out too. Has anyone else had any luck augmenting their sound output using this or something similar to it?
