- Tell us something.: Not a new musician, but fairly new to the Uilleann Pipes. I am primarily a bass player, studied jazz bass in university, but also play, piano, saxophone, clarinet and drums. Looking forward to a long and happy experience with the pipes!

Something else to look forward to, is this a new strategy to raise the anticipation for piping documentaries. Heres a taster of another upcoming one.

A fine documentary. I hadn't heard of Nance the piper, Kitty Hanly, or Anna Barry before. I didn't know that May McCarthy played a Harrington set either. Just heard that the set is in private ownership. Great to hear it being played by Louise too.

Hmm, it did not look a lot like one. One key on the regs, perhaps. Not a typical one anyway.a Harrington set
One problem I had with the thing : the unnecessary am dram like scenes where there is no need for it at all. It is something that happens in many tg4 documentaries . It is clumsy and distracting.
And solo piping, is that too much to ask for?

Yes I noticed that, the one key on the bass reg as is also seen in the photo of May as a young girl with the set. The bass drone bend and puck look to be Harrington's style, and the ferrules too I think. It's possible that the other original regulator keys have removed for some reason I suppose. I asked Louise on Facebook and she said it was a Harrington set, in private ownership as said. In the documentary Ann Mitchell Ingoldsby (edit) says "it's a Harrington set", then says "the chanter is Harrington". (Edit): I see now that this set was May's Harrington set that was renovated by Eoin Ó Riabhaigh for Liam Collins of Cork. Yes, it would have been nice to hear each piper play a solo tune or two.Hmm, it did not look a lot like one. One key on the regs, perhaps. Not a typical one anyway.

Re: Something to look forward to
Given my Anglo/Irish provenance from my father's side, Goldsworthy and St Aubyn/Lawler, imagine my excitement reading this having not yet seen the film, thinking perhaps she could be a relative, only to find that her name is actually Mary Mitchell Ingolsby!Steampacket wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 6:48 am

Re: Something to look forward to
Sorry about that, realized after I wrote that it was Ingoldsby not Goldsworthy, but forgot to correct the post.
