Marc Pollier plays J.S. Bach

Very impressive regulator playing from Marc Pollier in his rendition of J.S. Bach's Invention nr 10 adapted for the uilleann pipes. I understand that Marc makes his own reeds for his Williams set.

Same video clip only in stereo. I prefer the mono version. It's always interesting to hear different takes on regulator playing. It must take a fair amount of practice to work out the regulator accompaniment for this piece of music, and also patience to get the regulators in tune. Pádraig McGovern's The Queen of Sheba is another fine example. The Irish organ indeed. We met and played with Marc some years ago at a session in Tocane Saint-Apre, France, he's a nice man and a great piper. I think his Williams set is from the mid 1980's?

While I bow to no man in appreciation of good piping technique I must say that the actual piece left me cold. I felt no emotional attachment whatsoever listening to it.

When I listened to Padraig's playing of the "Return of the Queen of Sheba" I got a huge sense of joy and divilment from his playing. This sense of fun did not come across to me in the Bach piece.

Yes John, I understand what you say. Marc's technique is admirable and inspiring to me also. From what I understand Bach wrote the Inventions as technical excercises, learning pieces, for his son. Whereas the composition, "The arrival of the Queen of Sheba", is a bright and lively set piece meant to entertain the listener.

Yes Rory, that's why I chose to put up the mono version as the scallop shell is mostly obscured by the tea mug.
