"Sonority", shurely.
Simon! You just invented the word for a group of women uilleann pipers!

This is a historic moment!
Now for the hazing ceremony! [or is that Hayes-ing?] :o

Cathie (Kathy?) McFadden once wrote wondering if women might need a different arrangement of bellows/bags/etc. due to physiological differences - longer arms, wider hips, all that :boggle: type stuff.
She didn't write it here, it was for the Piper's Review in the 80s. I seem to remember it being printed out on one of those dot matrix printers, too...hrmm, more misuse of grey cells.
So I'd take that into consideration, trying longer blowpipes and scthuff. Pipes should fit the user as much as possible, the blowpipe is easy to modify - get some more washer/dryer rubber tube, most makers use that stuff.
Don't bother with a reed that's too hard for you, though. Get a better one made if you can't modify it.

Female pipers rock !!!

Post by Marcelo Muttis »

Female pipers are welcome, they seem to be broadminded persons, ati least in my country.
Here are just four Uilleann pipers and me (a beginner) one of them is a female piper from a group called Derwydd, she was the only one that shared with me some secrets about pipes and played my practice set.
Visit the site www.derwydfolk.com.ar and you ´ll see her.

PS: Should Female Pipers be called "Piperess"?

Marcelo

It is safest to refer to them as ladies. You will get brownie points that way. But we are all “pipers”, some are lady pipers and some are gentleman pipers (not many of these).

Justine, how is that beautiful Rogge snakewood set? Did Benedict get it running perfect?

It's playing well these days. It actually just needed a few tweaks here and there from the local Rogge experts.

The chanter reed settled in and started sounding great all by itself, although it seems to be the opposite of most reeds in that it likes the weather a bit dry.
(I am still not messing much with the rest of the thing...)

Anyway, it's happily ever after for us.... :D

Marcelo, that link didn't work for me. I was able to do a search and came up with this link:
