A student of mine bought a practice set from CJ about a year or so ago. It played very well - surprisingly so actually. Tone, playability and tuning on this particular chanter (D) and reed set-up were as good as some and MUCH better than several of the other "budget" practice sets available out there. Though, in fairness to CJ, I don't know if he's marketing his sets as "budget" or not.

I owned a Dixon chanter for about a year. I'd have no hesitation in recommending CJ's chanters.

There's one currently on eBay:

CJ's work is very good. You would not be disappointed, in my opinion.

Tell us something.: I’m changing my location to my actual address. My previous location was a reference to Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.

I second that opinion with a similar experience (I sold mine to finance an addition [drones] to an earlier set).

Here's a link to a couple of scales on an early Dixon chanter I sold on Ebay, could have been around two years ago. They're probably even better now.
I just found I'd become more used to a flat fronted Howard chanter than I appreciated.
