Tionólette?

We have these weekly piper gatherings, just three to five peopleor so. Given the small size and frequency, I've been searching for a word for these meetings -other than tionól- that befits the piper's gravitas, and finally came up with one: we now attend a weekly pipers' colloquium. :D

I thought of that, but I wanted something more ivory tower and lofty, like.

"Colloquium? Colloquium?? Pardon me while I play the grand piano!"

What's wrong with "session" or "seissun"? Or "soiree" or "hen party"? :D

I just want to know why I haven't been invited. I can squawk with the best of 'em.

Waidaminnit. You ARE where I think you are, right? Not where it looks like you are. Or ought to be if you weren't in the other place. You're making my brain hurt.

Nice piping weather hereabouts, though. Wanna see what the reed has to think about it.

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Since there are mulitple gatherings you can use the plural of tionól which is tionóil .

Thus, you can then use the term tionóillet and that way your pun dollar can go alot farther.

sym·po·si·um    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (sm-pz-m)
n. pl. sym·po·si·ums or sym·po·si·a (-z-)

1. A meeting or conference for discussion of a topic, especially one in which the participants form an audience and make presentations.
2. A collection of writings on a particular topic, as in a magazine.
3. A convivial meeting for drinking, music, and intellectual discussion among the ancient Greeks.

Before the term 'Tionól' took off they were called 'Symposiums' (or 'Symposia'). Hence the first two anual meetings of NPU are called the symposiums. Would attendees then be "Symposeurs"?

I always liked the sound of it anyway.

Regards,

Harry.
