Are polkas usually played AABB or ABAB (or does it matter)? Thanks!

The odds are in your favor if you double up. In a session just sit out til you know or can make the adjustment on the fly.

I'd say that mostly depends on the dance. I'm aware of at least 3 ways to dance a polka and some are more fited to AABB, some others ABAB.
If you're doing a trad song just try doing it the same way it was done, if it's a personal composition then it's up o your liking probably.
