Masters of Tradition US Tour

Post by leremarkable »

Hello to all ye good pipers,
The Masters of Tradition tour of the US is beginning tonight at Symphony Space, New York, with a line-up from
Bantry Festival of the same name including Martin Hayes, Denis Cahill, Iarla O Lionaird, Mairtin O'Connor, Seamie O'Dowd, Cathal Hayden and myself, David Power. A quick search under 'Masters of Tradition' will give you the exact tour details, which is taking in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Washington State and Denver Colorado. I have heard that a bunch of crazies from Salt Lake City are making an 8 hour road
trip to see the Denver show! Now that's a cultural difference for ya!

Well, if the guys down in SLC are driving 8 hours to Denver, then I really don't have an excuse! It's about an hour and a half from Portland to Olympia.

Looking forward to it!

Helloooo! Helloooo! Yes, over here, down in the left hand corner. We're here, 22 million of us, second largest metro in the US, and lots of Irish trad players and fans. You don't actually have to climb the Rockies or cross the desert by wagon train to get here.

I'm kidding, but only sort of. Why major trad tours often bypass Southern California is both mysterious and frustrating. A pet peeve, as it were.

But seriously, good luck to all with the tour, David. Looks great. I've lived in Olympia and it's lovely, all 45 thousand souls.

Eight hour drive? A trifle if one has laid in enough Mountain Dew and jerky.

My only fear is the other musical bits between piping solos taking too long.

Looking forward to seeing you, Mr. de Paor.

No kidding, MT. Why do you think we're driving 8 hours? Its a trad desert here in Utah. Unless you count the annual March migration of the Young Dubliners (which I don't, but as a teacher I tolerate the ignorant). Or the - get this - Shamrocks and Dreadlocks St. Patrick's Day Reggae Fest. No, really.

It doesn't get more Irish than that, does it.....

If there is a second tour, a Twin Cities stop would also be great!

And one of them used to be a school teacher. Hmmmm...

Looking forward to the trip from SLC. Of course, that might just mean 16 straight hours of polka hits out and back...it's a small price I'm willing to please my passengers. :D And if the polkas aren't in vogue, then perhaps hornpipes. hehehe

LOOK OUT DAVID....HEEEEERRRRREEEEE's SALT LAKE CITY!
